On 7 February 2024, the new F-gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573 was adopted and started to apply on 11 March 2024, with the aim to further cut fluorinated gases emissions, in line with EU and global climate goals.

The new regulation has discussed many measures towards F-gas control and management, and notably it mentioned that “The intentional release of fluorinated substances, where unlawful, is a serious infringement of this Regulation and should be explicitly prohibited. Operators and manufacturers of equipment should be obliged to prevent leakage of such substances to the extent possible, including through leak checking of the most relevant equipment. Where the release is technically necessary, operators should take all technically and economically feasible measures to prevent the release into the atmosphere, including by recapturing the emitted gases.”

The statement has underscored the importance of gas leak detection, emphasizing its role in preventing the intentional release of fluorinated substances. It highlights the obligation of operators and equipment manufacturers to prevent leakage through rigorous leak checks, showcasing the critical need for proactive measures in ensuring the compliance with safety standards.
